Dance in Schools

“Everybody dances, in their own way and for their own reasons. Throughout the world, people dance — to celebrate, to express their cultural heritage and identity, to explore and communicate their understanding of their life and times.”
Falmer Press, ‘Dance as Education: Towards a national dance culture’ by Peter Brinson, 1991.

Although written some time ago this quote from Peter Brinson is still very much at the heart of high quality teaching and learning in schools.  When taught with passion, subject knowledge and an understanding of how young people can engage with dance, it can have a lasting impression on even the most hard to reach young people. Youth Dance England with its many partners is striving to ensure that young people across England have access to high quality dance in schools regardless of where they live. Through a series of initiatives aimed at raising standards and expectations of how dance in schools should be delivered, Youth Dance England is working towards developing a high class, sustainable workforce.
